I Refuse to Settle for Anything Less Than a Fairy Tale

As adults, we live in a society where we are told to stop believing in fairy tales because they are not real. Your prince is not coming to rescue you from your tower, and you will love many people just to break up with them, and this is an ongoing process for the rest of your life. People think that the solution to this is one-night stands or friends with benefits relationships. Love is hard, yes, but as cliche as it sounds, you just have to keep believing. People like to say that fairy tales aren’t real because of the hardships they’ve experienced in love. To prevent themselves from going through the hardships of love while also fulfilling their sexual desires, they engage in this “hookup culture.” To me, this concept of a “hookup” always sounded like an empty feeling. How could you “hook up” with someone you do not love? It sounds like something is missing.

I am not someone to quickly get into a relationship or even go on a date with someone. This is because I need to feel a level of trust with someone for me to even consider them a potential partner. This is why I can’t use dating apps. I feel like I’m searching for my prince rather than having him find me. Much like someone who searches for a hookup, this type of searching for a potential partner leaves me feeling…
